Default GSMNP fees

It may have already been posted here but for people thinking of hiking in the Smokies next year it sounds like it is going to cost you.

Read about it here

A few years ago I bought one of those senior citizen passes for the National Park System. It was a one time cost and covers everybody driving into any National park with you.
I'm wondering if it covers hiking and camping fees too when you're not in a car. Anybody know?

I also have one and was wondering the same thing. I am more concerned about having to make the reservations

Question

I too have one and it would be great if it would cover the reservations, but I really doubt that it will be allowed. Somewhere I got the impression that the card was only good for driving or entering a NP and possibly for some discounts for camping and ect. I do not know really know and I hope it would be good for the GSMNP shelters.

I am curious how they will accomodate the thru hikers and what will be required of them concerning reservations and fees, especially if it has to be done online.

Should be interesting to see how they figure it all out.

Once you're 62 go to any national park, pay 10 bucks, and it's yours. It doesn't have to be a wilderness park. I got mine in a local city (Quincy, MA) which had a "park" which consisted of the houses of John Adams & John Quincy Adams.
