Hermit, Lone Wolf (David Blair) from Damascus had quadruple bypass surgery in March this year. Was running two miles non stop 63 days latter. He is back hiking, running and is in training for a 50K trail run in February.
Good luck to you sir. |

Having heart issues at such an early age (Lone Wolf - 49) will definitly wake you up. It looks like it did for LW.....................

Hi Hermit,
I'm almost 63 and I've had heart by-pass surgery twice...a single in 1990 and a quadruple in 2002. I'm hiking the AT in 350-500 mile sections each summer, and am currently up to Great Barrington, Mass. My cardiologist tells me it's one of the best things I can do for my ticker...but be sure to check in with your cardiologist before taking off.....good luck. I wouldn't let bypass surgery or a heart attack stop me from hiking. In fact, it would encourage me to hike more and to eat more healthy and to stay fit so it doesn't happen again. Some people see it as a sign to slow down, I see it as a sign to speed up and not stop.
