The second edition of Long Distance Hiking on the Appalachian Trail for the Older Adventurer has just been released. This edition has more information and is an update of the original book published in 2002.
The book is an invitation to those 45 and up to the world of long distance hiking. It shows how a long distance hike is an accessible adventure that offers a sense of clarity and simplicity that is difficult to find elsewhere. The book is available from the ATC, various outfitters near the trail, Amazon, and the author's website, www.gentleartofwandering.com. Full disclosure, this post was written by the book's author, David Ryan. I will be happy to answer any questions about the book and hiking. Please email me at davidryan@msn.com. Thank you |

I have a 65 year old friend hiking the trail right now. His wife is driving along the way with him. Good times are had by all, with a little will power and good shoes!

Going to pick this up. My cousin and I are in our mid 40's and planning to do an AT thru hike in the spring of 2013.
