Default Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club water sources along the AT in Pa.

I plan to post water availability here and on WhiteBlaze during the '08 hiking season, but folks need to understand that, since I will probably be gathering this info on my own, there may be a delay of as much as 10 days between the time the info is gathered and the time it's posted. At the time of my "official" shelter inspections in January, all water sources for all of BMECC's shelters were running at normal levels for that time of the year. I am trying to enlist some reliable BMECC members to help me with this project, but we've never done anything like this before...and, if it becomes overwhelming, this may be the last time it is done! (I'm neither retired nor independently wealthy, so my time and resources are limited!)

There are secondary water sources along this 65-mile stretch of the AT, and if we have drought conditions this year like we did last year, I will try to post these as well.

Thumbs up I Will Help

Shelterbuilder.......
You are not alone, I will help you find water.

During this hiking season, I can help provide current water information from Rt 309 to Delaware Water Gap. Send me a PM if you want some assistance.

At this time I am sure you will agree, ALL springs in our area on the AT, are gushing, and full to the brim.

Have A Safe Hike

Thanks, I'll put you down on "the list"! I live in Reading, but work in Pottsville, so I'm constantly crossing the trail, either on Rt. 61 or on Rt. 183 (and sometimes on Rt. 501, since this is near where BMECC has it's cabin), and my maintenence section is west of Rt . 645. But the northern end of our section is sometimes tough for me to get up to, so this will help, not only with covering the northern end, but also all the way up to DWG.

As I said earlier, I don't know how well this is going to work - my time is limited by work (and later on, it may be limited by more surgery to correct some problems left by the last surgery!), but I know that last year, with many reliable water sources going dry, the info that I was able to pass along helped more than a few folks out there.

You said that you were a maintainer with AMC-DelVal - I used to know someone who was active with them for a while (Joe Bell). He was also active with BMECC, but he's retired now...haven't talked to him in years.

I love this area of the trail, PA section 3 being my first completed section! Info on water would be great.
I never have as much time to hike as I'd like... if I did I would love to do some trail work. I carry a bag of trash out every time I'm there. I did get to do a little maintenance in your section about 2 month ago... Do you know the widowmaker that was above the fire pit in the site right at the Knife Edge? I used a long branch to loop some paracord over the end of it and evetually got it down. I've been looking up at that thing since I've first camped there!

Well, check out this link http://www.bmecc.org - it's Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club's website, and I believe that information on joining the club is located there.

fredmugs

Contact the Mechanical Man as he lives in the area and also maintians a section in the DWG area.

Also it would be great if you would file a trip report with us under section hiking. Please include trail conditions, water conditions, and any other fun stuff.

Have fun and be safe.

Peace be with you.
